The 1000%+ growth over the year for HotelTonight is impressive, although the study likes to deal in percentages rather than volumes so the actual number of room nights is not disclosed.

But the average room rate of $ 207.19 can be compared, to a  degree, with traditional hotels.

In the fourth quarter, Marriott was the most expensed hotel brand at an average of $ 241.46 per night, higher than HotelTonight although the latter’s figure is across the entire year. Holiday Inn on the other hand came out much cheaper for road warriors in the fourth quarter at $ 180.86.

Elsewhere, the findings around Airbnb show that it has grown 259% year-on-year, with US business travellers starting to consider Airbnb for international stays.

As for Uber, it has recorded quarter-on-quarter growth for all of 2015, with Q4 representing a tipping point in that it accounted for a higher percentage of expense claims than the car rental firms across the US.
