NetAffinity has analyzed booking patterns for their Irish and European clients and found that 20.7% of independent hotel bookings were made on mobile phones last year.

A further 17% booked via tablet devices, giving a total of 37% of bookings on mobile devices. Of that total group, 17% of mobile bookings happened between 10pm and 1am — and Mondays and Tuesdays were the most popular days.

The average hotel booking spend by mobile device bookers was about the same as for desktop users. Yet mobile lead times were, on average, 10 days shorter than desktop lead times.

The Dublin-based technology provider based this statistic on an analysis of more than 250,000 bookings that ran through its booking engine between January through October. The hotels primarily represent Irish independents, along with a few independent hotels in the UK and Europe.

The research dovetails with other studies. And on a related point, Earlier this month, Criteo‘s latest mobile commerce report claimed that apps now account for more travel purchases than the mobile web, for the first time.
